MTG Finder Chrome (1.4.0) and Firefox Extension (1.0.0)

After some months without updates, MTG Finder has returned with some new features and surprises. First of all, we'll describe Chrome Extension version changes and later Firefox Addon's.

MTG Finder Chrome Extension 1.4 Changes:

  • Black Lotus Project search. Now you can perform searches through BLP, which is a famous project that gives you live price charts directly from Magic Online Trading Leage. MTG Finder will show up a list of matching cards if there are more than one or directly the chart from BLP if there are only one matching. If a card is not found, a link to TCGPlayer will be displayed.
    Check the screenshots below.
Black Lotus Project search with multiple results

Black Lotus Project search with single result
  • Frame width and height selection. Now you can insert your preferred frame width and height, note that Chrome actually has an approximate maximum width of 800 pixels and height 600 pixels. This dimension change won't be applied for context menu or keyboard shortcuts opening new tab or windows.
  • Single context menu item for MTG Finder. Now you can select if you want only to have your preferred search mode on the context menu (unchecking Extended context mode) or all available search modes on it (checking Extended context mode).
    Unchecked Extended Context Menu
  • Fixed a recent bug caused by Chrome update that did make new windows and tabs open in a smaller frame that didn't fit the windows size. Chrome suddenly unrecognized the 95% for the height value, so now the height is calculated runtime as a workaround, so window resize won't affect frame size. Thank all of you that noticed this on the webstore.
  • UPDATED 30 october, MTG Finder version 1.4.1: Partially fixed an issue with magiccards.info. Since magiccards.info doesn't allow to be included in a frame, it will be opened only for new tab/window search mode, so it won't work yet for MTG Finder popup. We apologize for the inconveniences, we're working to fix it.
  • New options page as shown below:
New options menu

Some weeks ago, MTG Finder 1.0.0 showed up on the Firefox Addon-Gallery after some compatibility problems with new Firefox versions and passing a full-review process. The new version includes these features already existing in the Chrome version:

  • Improved keyboard shortcuts
  • TCGPlayer search
  • Options pane menu
New TCGPlayer Search

We hope that you like these changes of MTG Finder. If you have any question or suggestion, this is your place to discuss it and if you liked them, score them with five stars on the stores!

MTG Finder 1.2.0

In MTG Finder 1.2, we've introduced two new searches:
  • Blackborder.com. The famous online store has collaborated with us providing a lookup service that shows card image, card price, card price average through some other stores and other card attributes. Just like displays the image below. Blackborder search it's light, so you can have quick access to Blackborder database. It also has a search toolbar to type your wanted cards.
Depending on screen resolution, sometimes clicking the MTG Finder popup you can get a vertical hidden scrollbar that you can normal scroll down with mouse wheel.
    Blackborder.com search
  • Gatherer. Official wizards magic the gathering database. Here you should be able to find everything about magic cards in every printed language (but the search with MTG Finder can be done only in english words). Card legality, artist info, official oracle text and much more!
Gatherer search

Keyboard shortcuts have been inserted, so you can search in a new tab or window (choose it on the options page) by pressing a custom key combination (default ctrl+shift+z). See your custom keys in the options page like shown below. Be careful with the chosen key combinations, because it can also trigger other Chrome features.
Thanks to Mohamed Mansour for his work done to catch keyboard events.

I would like to thank again Blackborder.com's collaboration.

MTG Finder 1.1.0

MTG Finder 1.1.0 includes some new features described bellow:

  • Two new websites have been added to the search modes.
    • Mtg.ru - This is a great russian website that supports cyrillic charset in the queries. Maybe you want to use this search mode because the popup displayed is smaller than others and is fast and light.
The popup shows the card image, mana cost, types, rarity, expansion (including expansion card number) and artist.
Use this search mode only with english or russian card names.

      Mtg.ru search

    • Tapped Out - Tapped Out is a community that has several mtg tools such as a draft simulator, or a deck database. When you search in MTG Finder through this website, you will find the card image, card data and the more interesting feature: stats of the decks playing this card.
Tapped out search mode allows only card names in english.

      Tapped Out search

  • Context menu search is available. From this version, when you select words in chrome and do right click, a new MTG Finder context menu will be displayed.
    MTG Finder Context menu

In this new menu, you will be able to choose one of the existing search modes to search the card in a new window or tab (the Chrome popup seems to be available only clicking it...).
You can choose if the search is done in a new window or tab in the new option of the options menu. Warning: We've noticed that sometimes, when you use this new feature, the window/tab opens, but it shows only the footer. It's an error that we're trying to fix. If you reopen the window/tab with the context menu, it should display normally the second time.
    Options page with Tab/window choice

  • A problem with non utf-8 charset has been fixed in the magiccards.info search. Before, when you searched for a selected word in a language with non-utf-8 (such as russian, japanese, chinese or korean), it used to redirect you to a "card not found" page. Now this has been fixed and you can perform searches of russian, japanese, chinese or korean card names with magiccards.info search.

You can download MTG Finder in the Chrome Webstore Site, and remember, if you liked it, score it with five stars!! :-)

MTG Finder 1.0.0

MTG Finder now supports Apathy House search. This featured has been suggested by several people, so I decided to include it.

This new feautre, allows you to see the price look-upper from Apathy House with its price stats, like this:

Apathy house search
From the 1.0.0 version, MTG Finder will open a "news" page like this one when new versions are released. In this way, you will be able to read the new MTG Finder's features. If there are new options available, the options page will automatically open too.

The options page now includes a Donate button. Now you can contribute with this project in an easier way :-).

If you think that your website should be part of the MTG Finder searches, you can suggest it commenting this post.

MTG Finder 0.4

MTG Finder renews its image in the version 0.4. It has new frames with links (to this great side) and to the recently created options page. I've added this because I think that people don't notice the new features, and may stay tuned.

The logo has been changed because it now provides searches in wizards also (no longer only in magiccards.info), and it will provide much more in the future.

The new options page looks like the following screenshot:

You can download MTG Finder on the Chrome Webstore Site.

MTG Finder 0.3

The new version of MTG Finder Chrome Extension has been released, the features are listed below:
  • Added options page to switch between magiccards.info and wizards search. While the magiccards.info search does a full access to the website (here you can also see the rulings, prices and more), wizards search displays only the card image (screenshot 2).
  • Wizards search works only for english card names.
  • Fixed a problem with the queries of card names with apostrophes.
  • Added Google analytics support

MTG Finder 0.2

The first application presented in the blog is about Magic the Gathering (mtg), a famous trading card game.

If you have heard something about mtg, you will know that in there are thousands and thousands of different cards, is practically impossible to know all of them, the pictures, the formats where it's allowed, the artists, the updated text and a lot of another features.

Actually, there are some websites hosting databases with all the cards (such as magiccards.info), but if you are reading an article related you should open a new tab or window and do the query into the website. This is very uncomfortable, at least for me.

MTG Finder is a Chrome Extension done to find magic cards in magiccards.info and show them same window that you are looking without opening new tabs, windows or typing long words, you need only to select the card name and click the extension icon.

Figure that you are viewing a magic website that names a card that you've never seen before, named for exmple, "Ancient Ziggurat". As we can see in the Figure below, we only need to select it and click the button of the extension. A popup with the content of the magiccards.inf query appears and show us the desired card.

MTG Finder looking for Ancient Ziggurat
This Chrome Extension is available and downloadable for free on the Google Chrome Extensions website: MTG magic single cards finder.

I'm working on the options panel and keyboard shortcuts to do more accessible the query. If you try it and think that you need some feature, all your comments and suggestions for improvements are welcome.
